This is an interesting rifle at a breathtaking price that is provoking some discussion at different places around the net.

The rifle is wonderful, though perhaps not what is advertised, but the case is what gets my attention.

The other odd thing is the completely crude labeling of the rifle - seems totally out of character to have been done by the original owners.

Another feature of the rifle that makes me curious is the top buttplate screw - reminiscent of the acorn screw that sticks out the top corner of some germanic target rifles. Never did figure out to what purpose those things served.

I believe that rifle, or one cased in a similar manner, is shown in the most recent Rolling Block book(?) Couldn't find it but did note that Custer shot a Long Range Rolling Block!
I've no idea what the "acorn" screw is for?

The high end of the lowly RB's were some of the most outstanding Single Shot rifles ever made!

My guess? Without that screw, resting the rifle in a rack/corner would virtually guarantee a "kick-out" and fall. I'd think the shape of an RB would make it very susceptible.
