couple really neat rifles, Note the checkering on the gew98 style rifle.

Does anyone have an idea who this is?
The calendar is dated 1931 and the newspaper says Louisville.
I don’t know anything about the photo or where exactly it was taken but the man is Adolph (A.O.) Niedner.
Really, that's interesting I suppose the number of medals makes sense.
Never seen any images of Niedner later in life. But if that's Niedner, he sure changed dramatically from his early look!

Umm, if you have a copy of Michael's second book, look on page 49.
I will get a better quality picture uploaded once I scan it.

Have never owned either of Michael's fine books. Since my personal interest is always single shot rifles from the late 1800's, there's not much related to those in Michael's books.

Having only Michael's first book, could you post a copy of the photo you referenced?
Good morning All ...
I had scanned Niedner’s personal photo album previously owned by Michael Petrov ... the gentleman in the photo is not A.O. Niedner.

I respectfully beg to differ, Joe. If someone smarter than me will tell me how to post photos on here, I have four photos of Niedner that look like this.
Also, if anyone is interested in a copy of Mike Petrov’s Custom Gunmakers of the 20th Century Volume 2, I have a couple of copies left and they’re much cheaper than anywhere else you’ll find them. Please send me a private message.
If nothing else, we get to share some new photos ... ha!
Now if I can find my old PhotoBucket account info ... hmmm.
Joe
A.O. Niedner has dated some of the photos in his own scrapbook. I am trying to find those ...
If some of you have never seen these photos before, I hope you'll enjoy them.

From page 49 of Michael's second volume, my wife took the picture,
the rings are hers
OK, Joe, I’ve spent considerably more time looking at the photos and comparing them side by side and I guess you’re right. On first glance I thought it was Niedner and I still think they look a lot alike, have similar noses, and wore similar glasses. But it appears that Niedner always wore his hair longer and not as slicked back as the man in the first photo.
I was happy to share the photos and may try to dig up some more for our readers here. I second guessed myself when I saw the photo Michael used in His book.
I’m not an expert of anything! My wife lives by the motto, “You can either agree with me or you can be wrong” ... ha, ha, ha.
I couldn't decide whether the man in question was Niedner or not but in looking at the guns, they did not look like the sorts of guns that were in most of Niedner's photos that I have seen in books, so I was betting against it.
Thanks for the great photos Joe! I didn't think it was Niedner, but didn't want to commit too much without images to compare. I agree with Brent on the types of guns in the first image also. Just didn't fit the guns I'd seen images of Niedner with previously.
