I just wanted to wish all you fathers out there a Happy Fathers day. My father died about 3 weeks ago at the age of 88, he would have been 89 on the 25th of this month. He worked 2 jobs for as long as I can remember to raise the 4 of us, he helped me buy my first 870 at 12 and a 760 at 15. I paid 1/2 for both of them from paper route money and he took care of the rest. The yardwork was shared between my brother and I. Thinking back I'm sure it was not an easy thing for him to do. We never did much shooting(skeet, trap, that sort of stuff) but we would hunt whenever we could. He didn't hunt much after 80, but the last outing was for deer in PA. We shared a tree so I could help if needed and he missed one that my brother shot later that day so it was a perfect day out. He was the last of the 4 guys that started a local gun club(late 40s I think) that still is going strong and being run by grandchildren of some of the guys. He was a proud and modest Navy veteran of WWII. I can't express enough gratitude for everything he did for us.
So guys if your fathers are still with you, give them a big hug would you.
For the most part my dad was always on the qiuet side and would listen rather than talk. While playing poker with some friends one of the guys was really telling a tale and all of a sudden he looked at him and said if bullshit was music you'd be a brass band. Wow did that make the table erupt in laughter. I will truely miss him.

Sorry for your loss. My dad passed on a number of years ago and I wish we had been as close as the relationship you describe with your Dad. Thanks for the note.

It is called The Bald Knob Rifle and Pistol Club. There is a small clubhouse and outdoor ranges for pistols and rifles. Recently some of the men built shelters for the benches. It's within 5-10 miles from where Flight 93 went down in Somerset County PA.

Cherish the time together! My father passed away when I was six. I just spent the day out in the boat with my 3 and will be putting on the grill shortly. Happy Fathers day to all

Hey Sweep, my hat's off to your "quiet" Dad. My Dad was much the same as yours, rather listen than talk. He died in '03 at 80 and I miss him a lot. He didn't hunt birds but, again like your Dad, he was one of the founding members of the deer camp I still keep running with friends and family. My Dad was from So. Greensburg, Pa. and my cousin has a small farm in Jefferson Ohio. People from that part of the country are the "salt" if you know what I mean.

And a Happy Fathers' Day to all of you. Mine has been gone for about 30 years now. He loved quail hunting with dogs best of all and instilled a love for guns and hunting and shooting in me at an early age. My only regret is that I spent all of my adult life so far away from him. Me, in California and him in his home town in Kentucky.

Sorry for your loss Sweep, it hits home. I lost my father 4 weeks ago at 81. I always hosted the family for Father's Day but this year no one felt up to it.

Best to all that still have their fathers, are fathers themselves, and to all that cherish the memories of their fathers.

My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income.

Sorry for those of you who have lost your fathers. My dad died in 1962 when I was about 14. Spent the morning with my son before he went to work. So, I hope you all had a nice day. Good luck.
