I recently relocated my home-on-wheels to Fresno CA for a month or two on my way to Port Angeles WA. Aside from visiting Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia NP's (my reason for stopping) are there any area gun shops I might want to visit?

There is a gun show there periodically and I attended it the last time I visited family in Fresno. I don't know what the schedule might be. I got into a "disagreement" with the local constabulary when I tried to buy a C&R firearm and they wouldn't permit this with my C&R license.
I think you'll find this State is everything it's cracked up to be.

I do not know California Gun Laws and knowing them would likely anger me anyhow. However I do believe states can create greater restrictions over those of the Feds and depending how the state code is written the locals may have been right in refusing the sale.

Foolish perhaps, but I am sympathetic to police and other officials forced to enforce stuff they either know is stupid or simply hate themselves.

When you get on highway 41 north from Fresno to go to Yosemite, turn east at the gas station south of Coarsegold, and take the road past the casino to its very end at Sun Mountain Gun Club. The good folks there should be able to steer you right.

I live in Merced, the gun shops in this area are all black gun havens, the folks running them have no clue what a collectable gun is. California law on C&R licensees is odd, it is legal to buy C&R long guns in state if the licensee has a COE (no handguns), C&R holders can buy long guns out of state without the COE, pre 1899 firearms are exenpt. Most gun shop people are so intimidated that they insist on not selling only thru DROS. old colonel is correct, most law enforcement recognize that the laws are useless but their hands are tied by the politics. What is interesting is that there is a movement in the state to issue concealed weapons permits to any citizen in good standing that requests one, we will see where that goes.

I see what you mean, I went on the internet and my gun buying future here looks pretty black... I mean bleak!

Hi steve,
I am a Fresno boy. Don't thinkyou will find anything here. Herb Bauers is a nice store with some high end new guns, but not much in classics. In the pastfew years I have bought a few things. But not much. Most of the boys in the gun dept are handgun guys and don't know much about old stuff. There are a few exceptions there in the sales department.
Not much else here.

Sun Mountain is a great place to shoot. It is home of the CA side by side society all chapter shoot iin April each year.

I shoot there regularly. If you want to shoot while you're here, PM me
I shoot about 3 out of 5 weekends with a couple of dbl gun guys.

Jerry
