The Missouri Valley Arms Collectors Association show is
going on in Kansas City this weekend, this is a really nice
show and lasts till Sunday. I was there yesterday.
Dan "DLH" was there with a display of Krag sporters, some of
which were discussed on the forum over the last few years.
His display was fantastic, great rifles, placards with well-written descriptions.

I went back to the show today. There was an
S-Man sporter there. And a trapdoor 45-70
that had been restocked and rebarreled with a heavy
octagon barrel. A hand written note by it, said
it had been done by "Steven Dodd Huges".
Please, in recording this, what I presume to be a misspelling,
I mean no disrespect to anyone.

I never stocked nor barreled a trapdoor. I guess I should be flattered…maybe?

Hmm, well, give Dan a day or two to get back home and
get unpacked. He said he'd e-mail me some pictures of his
exhibit to put up. And he may have some more information
on this rifle.

Always a good show. I stopped by early today, but by noon many dealers were packing up. Just as they were leaving did see a really nice what I presume was a Ballard Rigby, probably the 4th model as it was in the 30,000+ serial number range. Didn't have time to see what calibur it was. Also looked at a rebuilt Winchester 1885 with a helm buttplate. Very nicely done. Did manage to pick up a used highly figured buttstock and forearm for my very plain Ruger #1, so all in all was still a very good day. Of course at shows like this, it's always a good day, even if I don't buy anything!

Steven,

The trapdoor was well done in the style of Hawkin/Gemmer and looked like a plains rifle with walnut stock and a patch box. The gun had been "aged" to look old but I could see no name nor your gold mark on it and the owner said it was not marked. Not sure why he thought that you had made it, maybe just a sales gimmick.
