I searched the archives but did not find anything immediately. Does anyone know if Ithaca made the Flues 12, 16, and 20 gauges all on different sized frames or if the 16 was made on the 12 or the 20 gauge frame? Where there ever any factory 16/20 Flues sets produced that anyone knows of? I guess I need to buy Walt's book!

A lot here depends on what you call "Frame". "If" you are including the Standing Breech in you definition of frame the answer is a resounding No. Stocks & forend irons may well interchange but barrels won't. A 12ga has a taller & wider breech than does a 20 say as well as having wider spaced firing pins.
Personally if the body & bar are the same with only the breech adapted to a different size set of barrels I do not call this a different Frame, but many do. I guess you could say I agree with John E, but just want to say the barrels will not normally fit from a different gauge or even weight of gun.

Miller - that is exactly where I was going. I have a set of 20ga Flues barrels all alone in my shop. I was wondering if there was enough consistency in the Flues bar and standing breech to allow for a set of 20 gauge barrels to fit on a 16 ga frame. Always trying to find a home for a lost set of barrels and was not sure if I would have a larger chance by also including a 16 ga gun in that search too. I would think a 16/20 set would be nice to have.

That will tell alot

His book is a good read and has gained more value than most items I have bought lately. I have read it three times and find it well worth the money and time to read.

We are very fortunate that Walt took the time to write said book before all of that unique info vanished into the fog of time past. Thanks, Walt. Your book is well worth every penny of its price.
