Since i can't post pics of the underside of the barrels on my Swedish 12ga hammer gun i'm listing the markings in hope that some of you fine folks could decipher them for me and tell me whats safe to shoot in the old girl.

The fella i bought it from told me it was made around 1942. Besides the serial number it has:

"Husqvarna" "20" "B" "1" "12" "K"OR an"X" that ones hard to tell for sure.

All these markings are scattered around on the underside of the barrels in the chamber area. The barrels are not damascus

Husqvarna had their own proofing, no Swedish proof house. There is a listing of the marks that use to be available on line, and maybe still is somewhere. The 20B is the model, the 12 is the gauge, the K on the barrel flats would be the mark of the finisher Claes Johansson. If it is an X it was Erik Isaksson.

If the gun was really from 1942 in may have 65 mm chambers. After WW-II they went to 70 mm chambers.

Well i do appreciate the info...... if anyone knows of that list of the swedish markings or know where i can find it let me know.

I guess it would be safe to assume to feed it tame loads....where can i find reloading information for older guns with 65mm chambers that won't destroy my swede.

The Husqvarna model 20 is a Lefacheaux (sp?) lock-up...is that what yours has? Well anyway here's a copy of the Husqvarna makers marks that you requested.

In this case the B in 20 B isn't a quality of engraving. Sometime between my 1932 and my 1949 Husqvarna catalogues the 20 became the 20 B.

Most (all?) of the proof marks, etc. for Husqvarna shotguns, shown in standard book "Husqvarna Hagelvapen 1877-1977" are for Models 100 series, 310, etc. guns, not for the underlever hammer doubles.

I have never seen one of the Husqvarna underlever hammer doubles with proof marks on them. I have long understood that these guns were proofed for something essentially the modern CIP standards. In mine, including one from 1900, one from 1920s, one from about 1938, I have always loaded to under 10.000 psi (for "heavy" hunting loads), normally to under 9.000 psi, even down to 6.000 psi. NONE of these gun have shown any loosening with 100s-1000s of rounds of under 9.000 psi loads. All of these guns lock up tightly.

It is easy to load 12s to under 9.000 psi, even well under. Look through loading manuals from powder makers. I nearly always use Green Dot or IMR SR7625.

Unless someone has lengthened the chambers, they are 65 mm. I load cutdown Remington RST hulls and put an overshot card wad over shot to cover hole left from starcrimping shortened hulls (Hartin crimp). With 16s I load Remington black promo hulls, which are actually 67 mm, though marked 70. What Fiocchi 1,0 oz 16 gauge hulls I have used were also 67 mm. Use of 67 mm hulls in 65 mm hulls is allowed per CIP regs.

Are you referring to the swinging fore end (Lefacheaux) as an underlever ( which is parallel to the trigger bow) that swings down and forward? I'm assuming so, as I've never seen a Husqvarna underlever or even a rotary underlever (screw grip). But if in fact you do have an underlever, I would appreciate a photo or two for my Husky files. As you can see, I openly post any Husqvarna info that I have for the BBS and anyone who asks (occaisonal European requests)

Robert, I've sent you pictures of a HVA model 31 or 32 that has a rotary underlever. The information that I have says they were in production from 1877 to 1881, 82xx serial number. Maybe you could post the pictures, I havn't figured it out. Thanks, Jerry Mouer
