Had a good couple of days wandering through the Dulles Gun Show near Washington yesterday and today. Always good to see Murph and several of my friends who are into this dealer thing. At Roger Bain's table I found a maginificant 10 Bore hammer gun with drop dead wood and beautifully sculpted fences. It was marked Golcher of Philadelphia, PA, but the crossed pistols beneath the barrels bespoke a builder more in keeping with the quality of the gun. In October, I'll take her with me to Canada for ducks and geese. Other than Charles Daly and now Golcher, I wonder for whom else Lindner exported his wonderful creations.

I have a Jas. Donn and Bro. Canton, Ill., a boxlock, ejector. The gun is of most high quality, with sideclips, cocking indicators and engraved to the 9's. It looks like Lindner, but does not have the crossed pistols. The damascus barrels are marked T KILBY. My guess is a Lindner action finished by Jas Donn. It is a three diget seial number.

Joe,
Daryl H. is on vacation, so I will share what he shared with me. He found an ad (1877) from Schoverling & Daly that lists - R.W. Schaefer, 61 Elm, Boston, - E.P. Taylor, 72 E Madison, Chicago, - Thomas L Golcher, 116 W Girard, Philadelphia.
T.L. Golcher did not handle the Lindners for long is my memory. Very few of them with his name on them are known. I would appreciate it if you contacted me regarding pictures. My email movie@damascus-barrels.com I have been working on the Golcher's for some time.
Hopefully Ken G or Bill M will jump in on this.
Thanks,
Pete

Joe,
Congrats on the new gun! I knew I should have found the time to get out to Chantilly on Friday :- )
While Lindner is most famously associated with Schoverling, Daly, and Gales (SD&G) and their Charles Daly guns, Lindner marks have been noted on several other "makers/retailers" including:
William Schaefer (during the later Schaefer & Son period) E.C. Schmidt (Schaefer's successor in Boston) Jos. Jakob James Donn (Donn Bros. - Illinois) T. Golcher (Philadelphia)
Also observed on non-US makers including -
Lindner (under his own name) Christopher Funk Otherwise unmarked gun sold under the name "Diamont Orlow"
Ken

My friend and fellow pigeon shooter Joe Taylor's new Golcher ten hammer gun is, in fact, a wonderful example of Lindner's work. I wanted it as a casemate for my wonderful ten gauge Golcher pigeon gun, but it is in good hands. As I recall, the serial numbers of the two guns were not in close proximity. By the way, the serial numbers of both guns seem to be more in line with Daly Lindners than with the limited Golcher production from 116 Girard Street. My possibly unique 16 gauge mini frame Golcher-Lindner hammer gun, identical in grade to both Joe's and my ten gauge guns, is a project gun since it has a perforation from one barrel to the other, probably caused by corrosion in the bore rather than an internal burst. The gun is well preserved otherwise. If the gun ever gets sleeved, it will be in Damascus. I know this is far fetched, but the gun is too precious to have sleeves in fluid steel. Bill Murphy

8b - have you talked to Teague about lining? If he can and/or will do it, that looks to me like a workable solution.

Have a Thos L Golcher Hammer gun- 2 sets of Barrels: 10-32 in' 12-28 in. One forend marked 12 on wood-fits both barrels perfectly. No Proofs marks. Action and barrel flats have "1120". Trigger guard tang-"3x,xxx"-will look for exact number tonight. Gold sheild in toe line. Horn butt plate with very plain horizonal lines cut-not checkered. PeteM-pictures are on the way.
Note: the two Donn shotguns I have seen have Westly Richards actions. One has the Thomas forend lever for easey opening. Bill McPhail
