The hammerless is different than I expected. Mine was a rolling block with steel barrels. Bought at a country auction in Michigan for $40 in the summer of 1994.

yep in aheartbeat and put it back in the field shooting. Nothing loss realy as all you would be doing is a chamber insert of some kind and it would be back to doing what it should all legal like.

Very cool, that was a nice find.

Order you a few shells from Arbrust and give it a try on clays just for fun.

He can load light target type shells, not just big heavy gunning loads.

I did a google search of "Arbrust" and saw nothing that looked ammo related. Could you elaborate for me please?

Tom Armbrust 815-385-0037

He is the king of 8 gauge reloading here in the US.

He's got it all to load any kind of shell that you might want for it.

They're not cheap, but they're excellent and he's set up to do it right.

Three ounces of #10s would cover a wisp of snipe quite well. No need for a second shot.

With the right load it might turn out to be a great quail gun ... a whole covy at a time.

Thanks for all the info. I'll definetly contact Mr. Armbrust.

That's an awful lot of shot for light target shooting. Probably 1 3/4 ounces of 7 1/2 would be the ones to order.

Bill it would take a hell of an 8 gauge to fire 3 ounces, that's a 4 gauge load. A big heavy one with 4 inch chambers might do it, about 2 1/2 ounces is pretty standard over in the UK.

A load like that in this gun would kill at both ends, and probably not do much for the gun itself either.

Even with these heavy charges I doubt you'd get more than one quail at a shot. That's not what these guns were made for, they've got a lot of choke and were made to shoot long range for the most part.
