Say, that's right, you really have to stomp on the shot and crush some wad legs to get it all in which SHOULD raise some questions among the naturally cauktious. Bullseye in a .38sp case; not so hard when you don't have plastic wad acting as a big space filler. And primers would have to be heat sensitive as well as impact sensitive to ignite embedded in power. Are they?

In theory if a primer is loaded within the powder charge it will be ignited by the shell's primer causing a much hotter and longer overall primer ignition. This should cause the powder to burn at a faster rate.

Would this blow up a barrel as shown? I doubt it.

A Miroku? It can't be very old. It always seems to be a handloaded round that's involved.

It's far from always a handload. Careful handloaders get a bit tired of hearing that.

It is easily tested and never discussed. How about that. Send me a gun and I will test the double powder charge and "primer in the powder" business and post about it here. I'm waiting for a response.

Yes, but what's that old saying "familiarity breeds contempt."
A self-indexing reloading press dumps a light charge of slow burning powder, a cold day and a squib load. Perfect setting for a barrel obstruction, No?

Oh, it can and does happen.

But... factory shells can be defective also.

The pix is of a 'major failure'.

Any guesses on the cause are just that.

Obstruction bursts don't usually burst the chamber of a gun. They normally occur when the moving load hits an unmoving object somewhere down the bore. This gun is burst at the breech, much more like an extremely high pressure burst.
What about the possibility of a 28ga shell being in the chamber ahead of the 20ga, can this set up the same condition as the 12/20 combo??. This is of course an obstruction of sorts, but is normally listed as a separate category of burst than an obstruction one.
