The display was Monte Mandarino's. He has of the finest collections of classic pre-war American Custom rifles.

MP - Just a ?, have you looked in the "unseen" places, eg. on several stocks I have made I put my name under the butt plate. Perhaps if you have not performed this autopsy it may be worthwhile. --- John Can.

John,

All three rifle have been completely dissected, nothing that we recognize as a makers mark or name.

MP, I had no idea Monte had such a collection. Saw him at the Bozeman gunshow recently and had a brief pleasant chat. I'd photograph that #1 rifle if I had the chance.
I'll keep my eyes peeled for the punchmark, but I don't see that much in this genre.
Thanks again for the pix.

On the edge of the left hand table you will see a copy of MP's book. A must have if you are interested in this kind of stuff.

Steven, if you looking for influence or inspiration from the classic makers may I suggest that you ask Monte for a look at his Harvey Rodgers. Over the years I have located about a half-dozen Rodgers rifles and ALL of them were owned by contemporary custom rifle makers.

Here is what one looks like.
