My father has given me his 12 gauge double barrel shotgun, made in Eibar Spain by Victor Sarasqueta, I think made specifically for my father. He is the only owner of this gun. I'm wondering what it might be worth. It is a side-by-side, double triggers, sidelock, but only in good condition. Lots of engraving on the metal, a hunting scene, pistol grip and checkering on the wood. Recoil pad that I believe was original. No alterations have been made. Anybody able to tell me more? Thanks for your time.

Victor Sarasqueta made some very nice guns, particularly his sidelock doubles. I have one from the 1930's that has been totally restored and that I think highly of, but I have also seen some entry level guns, especially the boxlocks. If you could give us a model number with the photos, that would help.

Well, the barrels are 27 and a half inches, but I just can't find any writing anywhere at all, other than Victor Sarasqueta, Eibar. I took a bunch of pics and uploaded them to photobucket but my online skills end there, can't figure out how to get those pics on here.

Looking online, I guess I can't tell if it's a boxlock or a sidelock.

Hello
Once you have a picture on Photobucket
Click on it
Wait
To the right of the picture codes will appear
Click ONCE on IMG and the code to the right of IMG will momentarily turn to COPIED
Come back here to your new post, and put the cursor in the post
right click and select PASTE, that will dump the string here
Do that for as many pictures as you wish to post
or just do ONE to try it out
SUBMIT
Mike

p.s. if you can take the barrels off the receiver, there will be codes on the bottom of the barrels and on the top of the front of the receiver

Wow, thanks for all the help. Pics are loaded. I'm afraid to take the gun apart, but perhaps I need to.

Fluffernutter,

The gun pictured is a low cost, working man’s box lock. Such guns typically sell on the on-line auction sites for roughly $400.

If the gun was made by Victor Sarasqueta (and the jury is still out, waiting pictures of the barrel flats and water table), my best guess is it would be a model 98, made circa 1940 – 1950.

Here are examples of the photos we need to see to determine maker and when it was made:

Barrel flats of a Victor Sarasqueta 16 gauge. Note the running rabbit (preceded and followed by the letters “V” and “S”) trademark of Victor Sarasqueta, and the proof year code of E*1 (1959):

Water table of the same gun. Note again the running rabbit trademark, and Victor Sarasqueta maker’s mark of “AM”:

Hope this helps.
