Hi all,

Just acquired a nice "beater" SXS; it's a Beretta 486 Parallelo. It's a Beretta "Y" stock, which is basically a certified pre-owned Beretta from sales demos. Found this wonderful SXS for on gunbroker for approximately $2,000.

28" barrels, 3" chambers, proofed for steel, and includes chokes. The stock is prince of wales grip and has a nice beavertail forend, which comes in handy because the barrels get hot.

Interesting feature is that the gun isn't able to shoot upside down, because it has a gravity safety. Annoying features is that it has an auto-safety every time you open the breech.

One thing that I love is the ability to turn on and off the ejectors. You can set a switch on the forend from "M" to "E."

It's a single selectable trigger. The receiver is a round body. Such a lovely and comfortable feel on the wrist or shoulder when carrying the gun on the sporting clay course or in the field. I find that square body actions dig into the skin after a bit.

The Beretta 486 can be special ordered with double triggers and 30 or 32" barrels from the factory if so desired. Also can be had with a traditional straight English stock and splinter forend.

Interesting double, less the single trigger. What is the bore?

Dhanks, you just hit a home run. The barrels are worth $2000. That is easily a $3500 shotgun. Very nice.

The barrels are worth $2,000? Doesn't even seem reasonable!

This is a 12 bore.

Beretta didn't exactly hit a home run in the looks department with the 486 Parallelo but to me it's much more attractive than the 490 Serpentina & given it is a Beretta I'm sure it is a very good design from the mechanical standpoint.

I used a 12 ga Beretta 470 SxS for years as my do everything rainey day/beater/loaner hunting gun until I switched to double triggers & it always performed well.

I disagree. I really enjoy the looks of the 486, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it. I'm sure it will be a great SXS with many years of use.

Just what part of "the looks department" do you find unattractive with the 486? Beautiful, clean, well-executed lines, imo.

John,

I would have preferred a more "classic" shape to the back of the action, otherwise it is a pretty good effort by Beretta for a moderately priced SxS. I handled a 20 & a 12 at the NRA convention a few years back & liked them. I'd like to see one with case colors.

I suppose the designers can't avoid showing that they are "Italian" which is fine if you are designing sports cars like the Ferrari 250 GTO

I don't remember all the details on the mechanics of the 486 action but I think it's more of a triggerplate design than a boxlock. Whatever it is I'm sure it will function well & long as most all Beretta's do.

It's light years ahead of the 490 Serpentina in the looks department for my conservative tastes.
