I have a project gun right now that had been submerged at some point, and not dried out. On this one there is a little decorative screw through the outside of the forend tip that screws into the release shaft. Tiny screw slot, and seized. Having good success with Kroil and heat elsewhere, I thought it a viable plan here but for the proximity to some nice wood. Amother technique I was told about involved a soldering iron held to the end of the screw.

In this case what I decide to do was insert the tip of the soldering iron into the shaft of the release and leave it sit for 15 minutes or so. The diameters were just the right size for this to work well. After 15 minutes, Kroil was bubbling around the edges of the forend tip, the screw came out easily. I was pretty pleased with myself.
