I am looking for suggestions.
I am starting a project based on a M70 rifle. The gun will be restocked. It will have a G&H mount installed (found a brand new one that was never drilled to fit any gun, looks 1960's vintage). It will also have a Lyman 48.
Now the question, I would like to do a leather covered butt pad but I also want a place to store the sight portion of the Lyman when the scope is on the gun. Any suggestions? Has anyone seen a trap leather covered pad? What about this crazy idea, what about an english style patch box on the right side of the stock. I don't think a trap grip cap would be large enough.
Any ideas? Pics would be nice if you have seen another gunmakers solution to this.

Trap grip cap isn't large enough. A hinged recoil pad was once offered by Hubert Hecht (I believe) but no longer. A belly trap may work OK, I'll check and get back to you.
Regards, Joe
