I am trying to find an article titled "The End of the Rainbow" by John Wallace Gillies that was published in the Aug 25 issue of AR. If anyone has a copy that they could scan or otherwise copy it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
John Holliger

John, The title of the article rings a bell with me but don't know when or where I may have read it. I have looked through my collection of articles from periodicals and can't find it. I may have the AR but that is doubtful as my complete collection only goes back to 1930. What is the subject of the article?

Are you sure about the date of the magazine?

It's August 15, 1925. The article has been scanned and sent.

Thanks much Michael, I had a feeling you would be able to come up with it.

Herschel, The article dealt with smallbore target rifle barrels. I have the follow-up article in the Feb 1933 AR titled "Following up "Rainbows"" by Leon Dezert.

While on the subject, Dezert mentions having a smallbore rifle built on a improved Tell action. Can anyone shed any light on what a "Tell" action is? From the photo in the article I assume it is a single shot falling block action.

Thanks,
John

You're welcome John. About twenty years ago I started trowing out the American Rifleman magazines, nothing of interest to me.

Before that I have them all starting in 1923, still trying to complete Arms & The Man.

Did the rifleman come out twice a month at that time?

LRF, thanks for the link. The article in the magazine is dealing with smallbore prone rifles. I can't imagine shooting smallbore prone with a break open rifle.

Yes August one was 1st and 15th, Shooting and Fishing the one before Arms & the Man was weekly.
