I recently purchased a nice H&H rook rifle and would like to be able to shoot it. I would like to purchase some .295 H&H ( .300 rook ) ammunition. Pease PM me if you know where I might purchase some. My understanding is there was ammunition being made up until a few years ago.

I would still ie to get vintage box to go in the case.

Ghostrider,

Nice rifle and outfit. Is one of the spare barrels a shot barrel?

To fit the case you probably need a pre-1939 50 round box (no dividers, rounds boxed nose to tail like they used to box .22 rimfire).

The post war boxes with dividers and rounds all base up are a bit bigger.

I shoot the bullet from the Buffalo mould sized .301 with 3.3 grains of AA 5. I see that Larry Potterfield (Midway) is using 4.0 grains of Unique in his video.

Use .301” bullets. It is worth acquiring a die to size down .308/.312” ready cast bullets of 80 to 90 grains made for .32 S&W or .32 ACP.

As to “a few years” ago Kynoch pulled the plug on all centre-fire rounds in 1972. I doubt if they had actually made a batch in this calibre since the early 1960’s.

If you can find any factory rounds in boxes marked Non-Rusting or Non Corrosive they take the No. 69 Berdan primer.

I have found that Pre-1939 cases take a slightly larger primer so No. 69 primers look as if they should fit but then fall out.

Bertram make Boxer primed cases.

Not loaded ammo, but Buffalo Arms has brass, bullets, bullet mold and dies. I just ordered and received this stuff for a 300 Rook I bought a couple months ago. I have started loads with 7.5 grains of 4227 and 5.7 grains of 2400.

Thank you for the information on the box.
Yes one barrel is a 410 converted from a 300 Rook barrel. Very well done.

There is the 300 Rook, a 25-20 Single shot and the converted 410.
