Anyone going to Vegas for the Beinfeld gun show ? I'll have a table in my name and Lefever guys like Dr. Bob Decker, Terry Buffum, Bob Noble, Steve Quill, Don Hardin, and Paul Devers will be there, too. Do stop by our tables and let us know what you have found. Daryl Hallquist
I am making my 1st trip to Vegas (for any reason). I'll be helping Toby Barclay at his Heritage Guns table.

Is there any other reason to go to Las Vegas except the gun show? Especially since Elvis isn't there any more. Stop by the Lefever tables and I'll give you a free Lefever calendar you can hang in the garage or outhouse.
A "FREE" Lefever calendar? That's a pretty good price. Good enough reason for me.
See you there.
What's this about Elvis isn't there anymore?

I'm going. Anyone want to get MOI's done?
DDA
I'll be there at the A.H. Fox Collectors Association table.
I'll be there too! I will look you fellows up and say howdy! Always a great time in Vegas!
Rocketman,
I'd love to have you check the MOI of a D M Lefever cross bolt which will be on the Lefever tables. 4AA grade 12 gauge, weight with pad is 6 lb 3 oz. I suspect it was an even 6 when it had a checkered butt or plate or however it was made circa 1904.
Terry
anything free is worth saving up for.
I'll be there for the SHOT show, but have to return on Friday. Rather bummed out about that, will try to do better planning next year. Have a great time gents.
Terry, I'll post a day, time and location early next week. Or, leave word with Toby Barclay's table.
"MOI's". I need some help. ?????
MOI = moment of inertia = swing effort = muscle effort required to point the gun in a different direction. MOI is to swinging the gun as weight is to lifting the gun. I do gun handling profiles of weight (lift, hold, carry), teeter-totter balance (weight proportioning into each hand), unmounted swing effort (changing the direction the gun points before mounting to shoulder), mounted swing effort (changing the direction the gun points after mounting to shoulder), and half weight radius (gun compactness). These factors quantify the handling of guns and allow direct comparisons among guns; much as stock dimensions allow comparisons of gun stock fit.
Questions?

Will be there Thurs and Friday and have a name tag hanging around my neck.Could be at Kirbys booth or surfing the venue. Please say hello if you see me stagger by....
Rocketman,
Thanks for your detailed explanation of MOI. I never would have guessed what it might be and its application to shooting. At least I don't remember that part of it back 50 years ago in my college physics and strength of materials classes.
Now I've got another reason when I miss those pesky clay pigeons. Not sure when I try explaining this to my shooting buddies it will be well understood tho.
I'm sure some other rookies like myself will appreciate your help.
Jolly
JB, you should have run headlong into MOI in Statics and Dynamics. It is the same number, but the use in Strength of Materials is different.
Gough Thomas (Brit ME) did a body of work and published it in the '60's. Unfortunately, I redid it before being tipped off to his books. I have carried the work a ood deal further.

I'd love to come out but due to my condition if I got ill out there it could break our savings! For those that do go, then I hope you have a great time!, it looks really fun.

Rocketman,
I am looking forward to a demonstration of how you measure MOI. I will be with Terry at the Lefever tables. I hope you can make time to give us all a demonstration. I would like to describe the process for our newsletter.
I will be there with 3 friends, (2 current and 1 who move out of CA), members of the CA Side by Side Society. I am sure a few more of our club will be there.
I'll be looking for an LC Smith SBT... anyone got one for sale?
Jerry
Dr. Bob, I'll look you up and we will give some guns a spin. Pick out some guns you would be interested in.
DDA
Plan to be there. Met some nice people last year and hope for the same this year.
I'm planning to spin guns for MOI on Saturday afternoon. I'll show up at the Lefever table at 1:00 PM and we can take it from thar. We can measure a few guns (a range of weights, balances and MOI's helps to get a understanding of how the numbers describe handling), and then discuss how to use the information.
Good for everyone?
Don,
Hope that you can drop by my table during the show. Doubt I will have the space to spin guns in my booth and at least we can spin some yarns!
Still haven't heard about the Woodward, you can give me a progress report when we meet.
Best,
Toby
I will plan to be at the tables then. I hope the camera police are not around. We will have a variety of guns to play with.
Toby, for sure I'll stop by.
Dr. Bob, I hope you do take photos. See you all there.
DDA
See u in the morning...will they let me through with camera?
