Very nice custom maker Savage 23D .22 Hornet
Wood to metal fit, general execution, aesthetics are top-notch. Just went back to shop and bought after seeing yesterday.

S-Man or not, I would be happy if my 23s were stocked like that. Nice rifle with an interesting scope setup. Is it a Stith system?
It is a Stith system. I've not taken everything apart yet but I will in the next couple days.

Here's your pics. Looks like a nice groundhog eliminator.

Check out the engraved screws.

That's a really nicely done stock! And the little touches on the gun make it a lovely rifle overall.
I do not think it is by the S-man, his checkering treatment around the PG and the cheek piece don't look like his typical work.

Thanks, I think it's a fantastic find regardless but its always great to be able to connect something to a name or a story.
Like the treatment of the "S" curve.
Slightly rounded in front and flat to concave in the rear.
Chuck
Working on an "S" curve stock and noticed this "S" curve is backwards from most.
Convex in the front and concave in the rear. Most are concave in the front and convex in the rear.
Could be a distinctive characteristic.

Looks somewhat like a Marlin Ballard pistol grip Chuck.

Vall, Appreciate the picture of the Ballard.
It is also concave toward the front and convex toward the back.
Opposite of the OP's rifle, which is very nice.

This is the signature feature on the unknown rifle pictured on p.108 and discussed on p.54 of Michael's book. I have looked at rifles from A. W. Peterson, and Joseph Meunier but I'm confident its not their work. In execution it is very like a Niedner product but it is completely unmarked.
