I'm looking at a Gibbs boxlock (B7392). Wondering if these boxlocks have safety sears? Anson & Deeley action, double underbolts, with third fastner notch on the rib extension. Did Gibbs use this action for their double rifles? I thinks that this serial number is from the late 1920's?

I sent an email to George Gibbs, Ltd., asking about the shotgun and recieved a prompt response.

The "B" prefix indicakes an out source manufacture, ie. Webley & Scott, Holloway or Burrows. The records for the years 1927-1930 were destroyed in enemy action in 1942.

He said that if I would sent a few pictures of B7392 he would try to identify the maker. I sent pics yesterday.

Jerry: Boxlocks with intercepting safety sears normally have a small screw just posterior to the fences on the side of the receiver. This gun lacks that screw, therefore it probably does not have the intercepting safety sears.

Socialism is almost the worst.

I would hazard a guess and say that this gun was probably built by Bentley & Playfair of Birmingham .
