The first Krags were the Model 1892. They did not get into production until FY 1894. Receivers were not marked "Model" until the changes for 1896 were made. That did not happen until late in 1896 or maybe 1897. Looked to me like the rifle still had its original barrel, just cut down. Only the stock was "new".

Krags have a demonstrated ability to crack bolt lugs. That happens with a hotter-than-issue load. I have done it myself. Almost all Krag bolts are interchangeable, except for Model 1892s. Some Model 1892s were upgraded & fitted with 1896 bolts at the arsenal. If the rifle being viewed has that upgrade, replacement parts are not a problem. If not, the future user should proceed with lots of caution because replacement parts may be hard to come by.

Maybe in a week or two the rifle will show up on a dealers list at two or three times what he paid. And now that we are all aware that could make someone very happy.

Let the games begin laugh .

Two or three times what he paid would still be a bargain in my book.

From reading the ATF web site, once an antique, always an antique. The Gun Control Law simply does not apply to it, unlike C&R eligible firearms, which are eligible for their special status only if they remain in the original condition.

Sure makes my Stoeger Krag look like dirt. The Savage 99 on the list isn't a bad gun either, probably came from the same owner.

So, for those among us who haven't a clue, who was the maker of that stock. It's beautiful and I wish I'd seen the auction in order to bid on it.

My thought, too. I HAVE learned from all the guns Michael has posted pictures of. Thank you.

I looked at that rifle 500 out of the 800 views, I think. Bid and watched it go because I wouldn't have been able to stop! I've got more damn guns than I can shoot now, and "investments" are only good if you resell them. I wish the new owner well.
