I would like to get more info on this gun it's a single bbl trapgun 34" bbl full choke vent rib, no safety montecarlo butt stock beavertail forend. It is marked Mauser*Bauer*Fraser*Mich on bbl
and Mauser mod 496. made in Italy. Mauser banner and "Original Mauser" on buttpad. It has Ltaian proof marks.
My question is are they any good and what is ballpark value.

Sounds like a cheap trade gun. Anyone can switch a buttplate or recoil pad- it is not a Mauser made in Germany at Oberndorf am Neckar-- an Italian usage of the world-wide known Mauser qualioty. Hope about some fotos and close ups of the proof marks, etc.

Most were made by Gamba

They shoot well enough
I have an original stock and forend sitting around here somewhere.

"I owned two of the single barrel "Trap Grade" Mauser's a few years back, model 496 and model 496 competition. After writing to Germany's Mauser-Werke Oberndorf, they informed me the replacement parts I needed would have to come from Renato Gamba of Brescia, Italy. I did write to and buy my parts for these shotguns from Renato Gamba.

Had a friend back in the 70s, with whom I competed at International Skeet; he used a Mauser Bauer 12 ga O/U. My recollection is that the guns at that time were being distributed by John Klein, from Michigan. That was the only Mauser Bauer I ever actually saw. My friend had numerous problems with it and ultimately got a different gun.
