What about a Pachmayr pad marked " White Line " on a trap gun, but it doesn't have a white line as every Pachmayr I've seen. Back of the pad also shows Pachmayr Gun Works, Los Angeles 15, California U.S.A. (no modern state abbreviation " CA " and no zip code)

Goggle search shows that " CA " abrreviation and zip codes were both introduceed in 1963.

Can anyone date this pad for me? Why is there no white line molded into the base? Tx in advance.

There may come a time when such a pad is considered "vintage" and add some small value to an older gun. Mershon White Line pads began to be marked Pachmayr at some point in history, don't know exactly when.

The "White Line" pad became known as the "Pachmayer White Line" pad after Frank Pachmayer purchased the company and rights to make and market the White Line pad. I believe this was sometime during the 1950's (am too lazy to locate my Pachmayer book); but during the 1940's, the White Line pad was offered as an option by many American gun makers to include the LC Smith gun during the Marlin ownership era. As to dating the pad above, White Line pads by any maker never appealed to me personally, so I wouldn't know how to do that; but do know Pachmayer sold his business many years ago.

Dogfox: The pad with extra thick black spacer was made approximately from 1980-1984. I recognize it from my days in my DAD'S GUNSTORE.
I believe it was called the Deluxe Shotgun-Field-DK. BROWN. HTH Jerry

I agree with Jerry. The "Los Angeles 15," address was used long after zip codes were initiated by the postal service. This pad is nobody's antique.

The 15 in Los Angeles 15, California is a postal zone. Postal zones were used between 1943 and 1963. Postal zones were replaced with ZIP codes.
