Pretty cool design.

There's quick video showing how the lock open on my blog. Very cool:

Super rare Beretta Sparviere O/U shotgun with a super cool trick

The bulino engraving is so well executed that you really have to look hard to find the hinge in the sideplate, Got to love the Italians!!!

I wonder how that would throw off the balance and pointability of that piece? OWD have you hunted with one?

Good question. I don't know.

I haven't hunted with one.

I know one of the guys as Beretta USA has hunted with one - or at least he took one out in the field for photos. I saw some pic online.

I would hate to be the guy who had to go to his boss and explain how he dinged up a brand-new, $90,000 shotgun.

One more thing: the Sparviere is 100% Beretta.

I just confirmed that they made the entire gun.

I'd bet the farm Beretta had the foresight to allow that extra few ounces in those lockplates to be accounted for in overall feel and balance. A few extra ounces there, if it is even there, is no big deal when it's between the hands anyway, IMO.

More of an "inspired by".

The B brothers had nothing to do with the making of the Sparvieres. They retired several years ago, and their gullwings were very different in a couple key ways.

So, do I have this correct? The safety operates normally when the breech is closed but will open the locks only when the gun's breech is open?

My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income.

Almost. You open the gun and push the safety forward a little further - past its normal "Off" position.

The safety only goes further into that position when the gun is open.

Same basic set up as a DT10.
