As anyone who ever came in contact with Michael Petrov knows he had an extraordinary amount of knowledge that he kindly shared with everyone. It will take 20 or 30 folks to fill the void he left. In a very small way I would like to take his place telling anyone who asks if his Springfield is on the sales list. I was given a copy of Frank Mallory's "DCM Rifle Sales" by my old friend Orrie Lokken who has collected Springfields for as long as I've known him. Please feel free to email me your serial numbers joel_black@netzero.com

Excellent effort. We could all be a little more selfless.

I have a 400 Whelen reamer made to the same dimensions as Michael's (Mine's a JGS, his is a PTG) that I would be happy to loan out in the same manner Michael did - borrower pays postage both ways and if it gets damaged borrower replaces it.

My email is in my profile

Thank you. That is exactly the kind of response I hoped my post would elicit.

For what it is worth, my idea of unwinding after a long day
is to run searches on the auction sites. If anyone wants me to look for anything in particular, I would be happy to do so, just send me a PM. I helped Michael find a Pachmayr takedown several years ago, I am even more glad now that I was able to do something nice for him.

Exactly why this is the best forum on the internet, thank you guys.

I'm a bit of a novice about these things but am always glad to help out in anyway possible, including BBS searches. Below are the instructions on how to find old posts that don't show up in search results because they are over a year old. Texraid asked in a PM how to find Michaels old posts but here it is for all to use.

To search any forum go to Google and put in the sites home address, in this case www.doublegunshop.com, then leave a space and put in your search term, in this case Petrov.

Usually the first result will show 3-4 posts and an option for "more results from www.doublegunshop.com". Clicking on that will bring up all the rest for you to sort through.

My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income.

All good stuff. Since this forum doesn't have stickies and Michael always seemed to have an ear for who was looking for what, how about want to buy thread? Sort of expanding Fred's generous offer.
I know everyone posts their own wants but they can get lost with time. A single thread could get bumped to the top occasionally keeping it alive.
Just a random thought.

Thanks, I wondered about stickies. Please feel free to do whatever you think is the best way to keep the thread alive. So far only one gentleman needed to verify his serial number which I suspect is an indication of just how helpful Michael had been.

I think if we all continue to air our thoughts, questions, comments, and gun finds as we have in the past and allow our compatriots to respond with comments and research results, the forum will continue to grow. Such an open collegial forum was Michael's goal and with his help, it happened. We just need to carry it forward. Continuing to make this forum the best on the internet concerning the rifles we all love would be a fine memorial.

Collectively, we possess a huge amount of knowledge. Singly, few (if any) of us has the knowledge/resources that Michael did- but by combining our resources we can come close.

Michael was a great guy and his writing were the inspiration I needed to move forward with my own 400 Whelen a few years ago. I have been doing load development pretty continually for the past three years. I had sent Michael some cast bullets to use in his 400 but unfortunately never got the chance to get with him to find out how they worked out for him. I truly enjoyed our visits to discuss all things Whelen. I miss him.

I'd be more than happy to share my 400 load data with any other 400 Whelen fans.
