Umm, aren't the elevation lines on the slide, just a pointer on the base?

Today I decided to stop being so lazy. I checked the sight base and it is definitely the correct long slide base that matches the slide the seller sent me. I wish the blank was for a long slide. I also decided to substitute my vintage Redfield 3-9X Accu-range scope that has given me great service on every rifle I tried it on for 55 years. for the even older Weaver scope My groups have now shrunk to 1 1/4". In regards to the scopes, after paying for the rifle, the seller told me when he first bought it, it had a Weatherby double turret scope on it with "Curtis Lemay" engraved on it. Since this was well after the deal was made, I believed him.
I looked through some of my old catalogs and decided the stock was definitely made by Towsend Whelen's company.

The Lyman 48 sights did not have elevation lines on the sight base. They were on the windage/elevation slide. What was on the base was an indicator that was held in place by a tiny screw. The screw went through a slotted hole in the indicator that allowed for some "zeroing" on the windage/elevation slide.
