She is a breach loader -the cartridge is 9" long and 2" dia. I load her with 3 oz of BP and 20oz of shot - which seems to work well. Unfortunately no manufacturers name and no punt - so never used in anger - but I have never had a wounded oil drum either!! Made about 1900.

skeettx - is that a swan I see in the distance - what do they taste like - in England all swans are the property of the Queen so I guess you would get locked up in the Tower of London if you shot one!!

I think you need a suppressor for that punt gun===don't the neighbors complain?? Now that would be a nasty cleaning job! What's the duck daily limit in GB? 100?

I only let it off on very special occasions - once or twice a year - usually my birthday! and I don't tell the neighbours beforehand!
Cleaning isn't too bad as it is a breach loader. You just unscrew the action which draws out the cartridge which is engaged with a dovetail slot. I then put a strong hose pipe down it a few times to flush out the residues and a few brushes with a wire brush that came with it. Once it is clean the biggest problem is getting it dry. I usually push through several wads of kitchen roll to get most of it out. For the final drying I use a pain stripping gun or blow lamp to put some warm air through. A few minutes of this seems to work. Last of all I have an oily pull through which completes the job - doesn't seem to suffer from corrosion between firings. As you can see from the photos the action is a precision piece of kit - shame we don't know who made it. The thread is an Archimedean type with the slop on the front side but flat on the back - to take the back thrust I imagine. All the screws are individually numbered.

Daily duck limit - what's that?

There ain't no limit in Great Britain, on ducks or geese.

I remember one night three of us killed 40 widgeon over a baited pond, I shot my first few with an 8 gauge. In the morning we took them into town and sold them.

All legal, in Scotland that is.......

Oldfarmer, I think you'll find that's actually called a " buttress " thread form. An Archimedes screw is a helically arranged flat plate.

Roalco - thanks for that - a buttress thread - I like it - describes it beautifully!
Ere are a couple more photos.
The first is one of the cartridges I have - but you might have guessed that next to a .38sp case - which I use as the initiator - had left over from the pistol days!!

and the next shows the detail of the action.

I was just looking for the photo I took the last time I fired the gun back in December - I think I got the load just right as it went straight through a 40 gallon oil drum - unfortunately couldn't find it but came across these from a while back.
The first one is interesting as you can actually see the shot on the way to the drum..

And the second one shows me with a very dead oil drum!!!
