Was that the one that you had to wait for the stockmaker's kids to graduate from college to get your money back?

Stockmakers are funny people.

I particularly like the "Do not buy anoter gun safe" advice. I am a self confessed gun accumulator and at this moment have 3 high grade doubles in need of stock repair or metal work. One day I'll ge to it but I suspect my time is shorter than the time required.
At least I've told my son "Be sure you know what you have before you sell it". There are things lurking in the pile like an auto sear for an FN-49 or a peep sight for a Krag carbine.
It's not all junk. We had a junk sale at a local gun show for web gear in a friend's gagrage. We collected over $3K for what we all considered WWII junk. His guns sold for about twice what we considered junk.

buying old guns is fun...

fixing them up at reasonable cost is satisfying...

selling old guns for modest profit is more fun...

depositing checks is also satisfying...

let make a deal...

I look at Jon's guidelines like a 14 1/4 LOP. Probably is perfect advice for 90%+ of humanity. Another 5% of the public can work within them, but will be mildly dissatisfied.

Then there are the last 3-4%

Out there doing it best I can.

Most of the DGJ board members may not be 1 percenters, but we certainly are the three-four percenters. That is why we all like this post so much - it is advice none of us worry about following!

Very sobering to see in print what a lot of us have probably thought at one time or another.I still wish I had bought that Lefever with junk barrels and paid the price to have it rebarreled in England.I feel sick just thinking of it.
