I can remember seeing a buck on a snowy April 4th in about 1996, but I saw 4 racked bucks today- struck me as unusual. No?

For here in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, that would be unusual.

I've heard guys talk about seeing them in our PA spring gobbler season. It's in the beginning of May.

what you are seeing could be transgender deer...created by climate change...

Lots of factors affect antler shedding, including weather, length of day, nutrition, etc. But testosterone levels probably have the greatest effect. A buck living near a large population of does that keep coming into estrous will maintain high testosterone levels, often well into March or April. However, a large population of does can also lead to over browsed habitat, which leads to poor nutrition... which can then cause earlier antler dropping.

Now, if you see bucks with fully developed antlers in May or June, that would be really unusual.

I often see bucks with antlers into early April around here but don't recall any as late as May. Just saw three yesterday.

I have seen a many racked bucks in Gobbler season but the latest May 4th. I think sometimes the new ones push em off like a white oak leaf!
