A friend of mine has an old percussion shotgun that belonged to his grandfather whose barrels are coming apart.
please give me a gunsmiths name to give him. It seems to be a Belgium gun as it is stamped Parker. It will be mostly a wallhanger after the work is done with shooting very occasionally.

Thanks

There's an active topic down in the double rifles forum, .500 Linebaugh, that might be a good place to inquire. Best of luck with it.

I hope your friend understands that this will not be inexpensive

You will require someone experienced with muzzle loaders who can unbreech the gun prior to the rejoining and relaying the ribs and then rebreech the barrels properly . It's more involved than breech loading barrels

This may be worth an ask on the American Longrifle board

Stallones,
To keep the gun as an heirloom and wall hanger, an expensive relaying of the ribs shouldn't be required. A reasonably competent local gunsmith should be able to handle it. The most important thing is to clean rust out of the loose coming solder joints( a razor blade will be helpful) and carefully wire the ribs to the barrels near where the heat will be applied, to prevent additional looseness.

Just a note and not intending to make trouble but it's either a wall hanger or an active gun. From the safety perspective "occasional use" is like "sort of pregnant": it's fully safe to fire or it's not.

I have begun adding at least 100$ to the job if epoxy or loctite has been attempted in the repair. It is a smelly nasty job under the best circumstances and adhesives just make it worse and more toxic.

I am considering telling him to use JB Weld if it is actually going to be a wall hanger. I put barrels on one back together with it about 40 years ago and it is still holding together.
