Recently acquired a Perazzi DHO. Probably a 1970's gun. The top rib popped first time out. The rib is high and hollow. I have been informed that that is unusual for this particular gun. It may have been a modification after the gun was built. Anyway, had it fixed and so far so good.
Regards,
Max

I have one of those sob story guns Bill speaks of. My one remaining 12 ga M21 - I bought it on the cheap many years ago, knowing it had been reblued. Turned out the barrels were pooched - I discovered this when the top rib started coming off. In the end it was very nicely sleeved by Turnbull's shop. This one owns my first 100 straight.

In almost all cases, the rib problem occurs with reblued barrels (although, it has happened to original barrels). The socalled doubling problem happens when someone tries to set the pull weights under 3 pounds.

Tim - What was cost to repair gun? Relay rib and reblue barrels? Erik, Actually I never did get it fixed. Used it that way for awhile. I had bought it right and was offered what I had in it (buyer was informed about rib problem) so passed it along. I had contacted Andy and was planning on have him do the work. tim

I don't shoot all of them, Lowell. But I would know if one of them had a loose rib. And none of them do.

8-Bores reasoning sounds right to me. A beavertail tends to put more force on the lug. If that lug ever moves the rib is popped. Many an old hammer gun without an efficient check hook developed this problem & they weren't made of Chrome-Moly. Every time they were opened the forend iron striking the bottom of the frame bar, gave the lug a "Lick". While the beavertail most likely was not as destructive as this, still a lot of those 21s were used in competition & fired a lot of rounds. I suspect this has a lot more to do with it than the steel alloy.
