As a learning question, why would you pass on this gun?

Seems like a great deal for gun that looks like the day it was shipped. Oh wait, maybe he means the day it was shipped to him.

Greg,
I had been looking at that one but settled on the Cross Brothers Underlever I have posted on here. I am sure it is not the quality of a Purdy or H&H but don't see why they say stay away if it is mechanically sound. It certainly is not priced high IMO. It definitely has had its original finish removed, but for a shooter, I see no reason to not consider it. As a collector I can see why you would avoid it, but just for having as an example of a Birmingham Brit gun around to shoot once in awhile what would it matter. More info from the Naysayers would be helpful. Have you asked the seller about lock up, and whether the barrels have been honed? Plus they have a seven day inspection period.

When I (me personally) look to buy a hammergun or drilling,
cuter is better--beauty sells.
That gun maybe mechanically sound entry level hammergun,but its pros is for cowboy action shooting,cut the barrel etc.
It will never be worth more than what it is.
It has no endearing qualities,like provenance,extra detail,or for example:Boehler barrels.
Because its a not well known maker [think meat and potatoe gun],its priced somewhat accordingly.
At this pricepoint you would be wayy better off with a Husqvarna for a shooting gun.
You want a Vintagers gun of substance,be prepared to get into 4 digits,and buy from someone who "knows his snit".

The price seems right. I would confirm,
* Chamber length.
* Choke.
* Barrel pitting.
* Barrel dents or bulges.

Hi all, I've asked all the standard questions and the seller is very helpful. I just don't know, If I did go for it, I'd use it for doves more than likely.

Any one else?

Thanks again!!

Greg

Provenance doesn't matter to the doves. If it checks out, it would be a fine shooter. I'd be very particular about barrel wall thickness, and stick to light loads, you knew that already.
I've got a few guns that I'm not concerned about making any money on, or selling.

Best,
Ted

If the seller can't quote wall thickness, it's a five dollar shotgun.
