Thanks.
What are the "factory upgrades", how do I recognize them?
This gun being in Europe I doubt it has any factory upgrades, so how much less would that be?
Cheers,
Jani

If it has the upgrades it will have a dot ( . ) in front of the serial number . You can also look inside the receiver , at the back there should be 2 allen head cap screws .
Gun without the upgrades will sell for appox $200 less than one with them .

The serial number on a 3200 is OU #### If your number is OU.####, it supposedly has the updates. The allen head cap screws are in the lower left and right corners of the breech face. Since Remington quit doing the updates for no charge, the update procedure is very expensive and is probably best performed by Laib's Gunsmithing, because Remington may have quit doing it at all because they have liquidated their 3200 parts. A 25 1/2" field gun is not a popular item in the U.S. Most 3200s are sold for clay target guns and short barrels are very out of favor here for target guns. This is a great gun that may present a problem for you if you break a striker assembly. You would have to get Laib's to ship you one with instructions on how to install it. You can't conveniently fix a broken one yourself. 3200 owners here usually keep a pair on hand in case their gun goes out of action with a broken striker. On the other hand, it is a great gun. I once had a half a dozen assorted 3200s and now am down to my wife's gun, which is identical to yours, 25 1/2" field grade. Good luck.

Laib's website is laibsgunsmithing.net There is much 3200 information on the site along with repair information.

It is a gun built from the get go with the upgrades. No lower pin thru the receiver and the wreath around the dog on the sides. I'd say $800 give or take would be about right here in Eastern Washington/Northern Idaho.

As Researcher has said, the lack of the lower pin is positive proof that the gun had the modifications from the factory, but having the pin is not proof that the mods were applied later. Apparently there were a lot of frames that had already been drilled for the pin when the mods went into effect, and those frames were completed with dummy pins filling the holes. You can tell whether a gun had the mod applied originally or after being sent back by the location of the dot in the serial number. On sent back guns, the dot is squeezed in between the letters and numbers, whereas on the guns with the mod applied originally, a space was left for the dot so it isn't crowded in. I have owned a number of these guns and had never noticed the wreath being present or absent.

I had a sort of "cottage industry" back in the late 1970s and early 1980s of buying early Model 3200s and then taking them with me when I went to the summer Can Am/Trans Am and fall U.S. Grand Prix at Watkins Glen. I'd then pop by Ilion on Monday and drop them off for the modifications. About six weeks later they'd be on my doorstep looking like new guns in a nice Remington box. At least twice they put new forearm wood on the guns when the original had a crack.

Funny you posted that . I've got a 3200 trap gun in the closet that I sent back for the up grades . Forearm also had a crack and they could not match the wood so they put a new stock on it also . They also replace the 30" bbl. because they said it had "blueing problem" . Sent it back when they were closeing out their parts and had a set of 32" bbls fitted .
