Hi,

I hope someonce can help me. I have a double barrel shotgun, in fairly 'rough' shape that is marked "clabrough and johnstone" with serial 11636.
It in non-auto-ejector, has a 'brownish' barrel, and the barrels are marked 'nitro-proofed'.

Unfortunately, the firearm has been cut down to 22" barrels by a previous owner, so I assume it has no collectable value.

Could you give me any idea of the date of the manufacture of this shotgun?

Thanks,

Stewart Churchill

Between 1925 & 1954, barrels struck by Charlie Crowther which makes me think pre 1939

Clabrough&Johnstone ceased to trade circa 1937.I have Owned two C&J guns #14606 a 12G,S.L.N.E that was tentatively dated as circa 1930,s.The second gun was a 12G B.L.E # 13671. Both of these guns bore 1925 Birmingham nitro proof marks. On the basis of these serial numbers and the proof marks on your gun a reasonable estimate for the date of manufacture is mid to late 1920.s
