This 20 gauge blew the other day at my gun club. Lucky no one was hurt. I'm kinda glad I didn't witness it.

Were the chambers reamed out or the forcing cones lengthened? The barrel that split has almost a half inch of shiny metal whereas the rest of the barrel is blackened in appearance.

Sure looks like obstruction. Do you have any more details? What make of gun is it?

It was a Miroku 20 ga. O/U'r the guy was shooting a round of skeet with handloads.....the guy said he noticed nothing out of the ordinary until she blew the bottom barrel.

A good reminder of why I won't allow any "test firing" by the potential buyer of any gun I sell privately. I am glad the shooter walked away from this without serious injury.

Speculation of course: I double charge or a live primer mixed in with the powder? Any remnants of the case to examine? Were any of the remaining shells disassembled and examined? Jim

You ought to have the thing mounted in a shadowbox with a reminder for shooters to check their bores before shooting. No need to vitiate the message by telling the viewer the shooter walked away unhurt.

I doubleloaded a shell a few years ago, fortunately it was 7625 but it was quite a jolt and it froze the action. It was 48 gr. 7625 in an old double. No harm to the gun, just my shoulder.

Please post a link to a research laboratory that has test fired double loads of powder in published loads, or has test fired properly loaded shells with primers in the powder charge. I have never seen evidence of such tests, but I could accomplish them for about ten bucks plus the price of a junk gun. Explain this, please.
