I don't like cheap or fake engraving but I think the work on this German Shutzen rifle I own is about as good as it gets: Jim

Looks like a night at the opera but everyone has different tastes and that is what makes engraving so much fun to examine and marvel at.

Adding to the elegance of the gun. That's what I like to see. Can't describe it all that well but I know it when I see it. Not so much a particular style or not, more just the right amount of the right style for the gun.
Oh, and did I mention? I hate those ornately carved German stocks. Have only ever seen one that looked good. But to each their own.
Regards,
James

As far as I know this rifle was considered the epitome of highstyle elegance at the pre WW II Shutzfests held in Germany. Is it over the top in todays world? I certainly think so but looking at this another way I wonder what the craftsmen who made these rifles would think of the plastic laser "engraved" anodized stuff that's in style today? My carry gun is a Sig Sauer P229 that's deadly efficient and has a built in laser sight. On the other hand it's about as attractive to me as a brick. Benelli Shotguns, which are in the same brick category, IMO are the "in" gun with the tactical crowd at present. It's all in your perspective and what you've been exposed to and the opinions we all develop over time. Jim

Since the only gun I own with very modest engraving is a Victor Sarasqeta 4E SLE I like alot; the others are blue-collar Yankees, Nitro Specials, a first year "Fox" Model B and a beautifully made Miroku Model 500; a M-97, Rem. Mod. 17. So much for a poor man's closet. Chops

I like engraved guns that come up to my door, ring my door bell and ask if they can stay with me L.C. Smith 1940 Baker

How can one not appreciate the late 19th century American engravers? No Dremels, lasers, or acid etching. Just hard work all done by hand.
