Now we are actually experiencing the only sunshine London has seen since this time last year, I'm about to board a plane for Africa - where it is winter!
My bag contains my Thompson hammer gun, a Kessler 16-bore boxlock and a Lang 12-bore SLE. Typically, only one is for me - the others are for a friend to shoot with.
We will be doing a lot of shooting so let's hope the old girls stand up to it again.

Dig, A 16 bore? No troubles with ammo? I hope you don't forget us when you get back and give us a follow-up report on this trip. Good luck!!!

We supply all our own ammo for the trips - we brought in enough Eley 16 bore shells to keep the two 16-bore shooters happy. One of our party is taking his newly renovated Holland & Holland 'Royal' 16-bore.
I think I'm beginning to convince people that these old guns are capable of hard work!

We, all pitched up in good order. A nice selection of nice guns in the field:
Holland & Holland 'Dominion' 12-bore Thompson 12-bore hammer gun Holland & Holland 'Royal' 16 bore Webley & Scott 12-bore boxlock Kessler 16-bore boxlock and........
Hatsan 20-bore semi auto Browning 12-bore o/u AYA No.2 SLE
We strolled out this morning and bagged a few guinea fowl and orange river partridges. Just had alate breakfast and then out for more.
Sun is shining, 25 degrees, light breeze. It could be worse.

Just got back from a great day - we finished with a flight on a big pan (shallow lake). I put the old nail to good use and ended up with 17 ducks of varous type (whistling duck, white face duck, cape teal egyptian geese and spurwing and a snipe). All shot with no choke and 1oz of fives.
Walking up the partridges and guinea fowl is in long grass and weeds interspersed with small bushes and a few taller trees. The autoloader belongs to one of the shooters.
The dogs are german short-haired pointers. We have a photographer here and a vide cameraman with a broadcast quality camera so hoe we'll have some good footage.
Off for a beer , a Petit Edmundo and a brai.

Sounds like fun. Happy trails and safe home. Don't lose the pictures or you'll have to go back to make more.

Back and in need of a bit of a rest. I shot 233 pigeons this afternoon for 360 cartridges. Good birds over tall eucalyptus trees in a stiff breeze. Add to that several francolin and guinea fowl and then 12 ducks as the sun went down on a splash.
The old gun hasn't fallen to bits yet, though I had to tighten up the hand and breech pins on a fellow gun's AYA Number Two (aptly named).
All good.
