I am another who agrees with Mike.

I greatly enjoy other members shared hunts. If they have pictures, more!

Keep them coming.

I too was somewhat taken aback by Humpty's post. I see this forum as both a place to share our collective knowledge and experiences in our common interest area.

I appreciate the pictures of other's adventures whether it's just out to a miserable public area in the neighborhood or one of Dig's Africa exrtavaganzas. Both make me feel included rather than left out.

I hope I just misunderstood Humpty's post. However, I can assure him that the experience of raising a son is a fair trade for all the hunting trips he might miss!...Geo

Humpty, since you are raising a newly born son, I think that you are probably two, maybe two and a half or three decades behind many of us here; maybe more.

Forty years ago, I was looking at others doing what I do now and wishing it was me. Now I look at young men such as yourself and wish I was them again. Be patient. Your time will come all to quickly.

At seventy, I know that my legs, Father Time and Mother Nature may not allow me to hunt 110 days this year as I have for the last decade. I also know that I might not have a decade left.

And please, know too that the friends I have made and who now come to hunt with me because of much of what I have posted here and on other similar interest boards, are treasures gleamed with the bait of photography.

The thing that has kept me posting such is the positive comments from those who have repeatedly said they greatly enjoy reading about others' exploits in the field, because of their inability to participate. It is quite believable to me that there are some who can't participate and resent others being able to do so.

A new baby is one of the greatest gifts God gives a family, and takes a back seat to nothing. You are extremely blessed to have him, and have my congratulations. I would say that there are those who "have and do" who should, and may, be envious of your position as a new father. You have every right to have your say that you will not be hunting anywhere, or buying/trading any guns.

My apologies if I have ever stepped on any toes by sharing my blessings with those not able to get out and do for themselves. It was never my intention to brag, I despise that.

No, Stan, Geo, & all, 'course not, if I didn't want to read yours or anyone else's posts, I would have stayed away from this board. And, Geo is spot on about feeling included rather than left out. Sorry if it sounded offensive or irritated, it wasn't meant that way!

I was only going to suggest, half-jokingly, that the users who aren't so lucky could speak about their feelings as well. Is't what the internet is about, to have that proverbial hole in the earth to say that the king's got donkey's ears into. I want this forum to be filled with threads about great finds, great hunts, and problems fixed succcessfully - but why not have just one "misfoutunes thread", I dunno, Imnotgoing Anonimous, or something. OK, OK, real men don't do that ... as a rule... but there's got to be an exception for every rule, no? smile

Maybe that's a bad idea, though, if the humorous aspect of this seems to fail.

And, last but not least, thanks for the words of support.

AmarilloMike, Rockdoc - I was't clear enough in my post. It's not about state land vs. organized preserve, it's about being able to allot only about half a day per month for this. Me alone could have gone out more often, but I don't think it's fair when I go out and play, while my love, who enjoys this as much as I do, stays home babysitting.

On the other hand, next weekend we're going to my in-laws, and they have that bit of public access within 30 minutes drive, and if I manage drag her out, well, any African safary wouldn't be more fun!

Shane T - get well soon! [...]it happens, just stay away from the outdoor channels ... they seem to be filled with bows and big game more than anything else wink

Cameron - isn't it funny how work and hunting (aka play) are supposed to be alternative choices, but, in reality, if you work you can't hunt, but if you don't work you can't hunt either? smile

KY John - Two Ivy League? That's something to be proud of! Maybe your future is filled with trips your sons will take you to?

Have fun whatever you're at, all!
