I had a couple of Model 23's, both Classic and Golden Quail, but found a 7lb .410 a bit of an oxymoron
Anyone like the Iver Johnson Skeeter?? Any reccommendations??

The Skeet-Ers were made as clay target guns, as the name implies. They weigh , in my stable, 6# 3oz in 410 ga and 7# 10 oz in 28 ga. Each shoots like a 22 rifle or a bit more. Lots of thought must have gone into these guns by Iver Johnson to make them heavy enough to shoot clays all day and not suffer recoil.

I had no idea that the Classic weighs 7 pounds. In my opinion the Classic is the best design in a side by side .410 out there, if you can stand the price and the 26" barrels. The 28" AYA #2 is my favorite if you can't afford a Parker or a Galazan Fox. The Galazan Fox would be my first choice for shootability and resale value. Yes, I like the Skeeter a lot, but they are a bit pricey today.

With killer wood and a Beavertail Forend, about half the cost of the CSMC Fox... . . . . . . . . . .

My Model 23 Classic .410-bore weighs 6 pounds 5.9 ounces and the 28-gauge weigh 6 pounds 6.8 ounces.
Does that picture mean you've received your RBL-410? I ordered mine from Lou last January at the Antique & Sporting Arms Show in Las Vegas.
Just for some more .410-bore shotgun weights, my Winchester Model 42 Skeet weighs 6 pounds 6.7 ounces with the 26-inch barrel assembly in place and 6 pounds 8.1 ounces with the 28-inch modified barrel assembly. My lightest, and hardest to shoot well .410-bore is my Ithaca NID which weighs in at 6 pounds 1.7 ounces. My Superposed New Model Skeet with 26-inch barrels is 3/10 of an ounce under 7 pounds, and my Crescent Fire Arms Co. .410-bore is 6 pounds 2.3 ounces.

I have a real soft spot for .410 guns, especially SxS .410s. Ugartechea model 41, weighs 5 pounds and 9 ounces, 2.75 inch chambers: Petite gun. Next picture shows the mdl 41 received next to a 12 gauge receiver. The standing breech of the .410 will just about fit between the side clips of the 12 gauge: Huglu .410 (SGR10), 5 pounds 10 ounces, 3 inch chambers, single selective trigger: Huglu .410 (201A) 5 pounds 11 ounces, 3 inch chambers, double triggers: Both of the Huglus came to me choked full/gnat's gnass. I had them cut for choke tubes. I use SKT/IC for skeet, IC/Mod for wobble trap, and F/F for trap. There is nothing like a .410 to bring a little humility to your life, shooting clays. There is also nothing like a .410 to teach a fellow to get on the target fast.

How much lighter do you want one, Bob? I am using this one in it's second season, now. Very impressive little gun for the money ($499). It's mighty light though, at 4# 12oz. However, it's handling belies it's light weight. Rocketman showed my why, when we spun it last year on his MOI machine. The weight is concentrated toward each end, not in the receiver. He said it has handling characteristics very closely resembling that of a 12b English game gun, and probably explains why I shoot it better than I should a gun this light. 28" barrels and a single trigger that has not failed me, or my two buddies who have them, yet. www.yildizshotgun.com/b27e.html All my best, Stan

Being anal retentive and a little weary of buying alot of guns I ultimately don't keep, I want to make the right decision this time. I want one .410 SxS, will probably shoot more Skeet with it than anything, and I'd like it to have "Killer Wood". Stan, 5.5 to 6 lbs would be ideal. I had to crush and burn a Merkel 28 on a petite frame that weighed 5lb 3oz. A 4lb 12 oz gun gives me not only the willies but the heebie jeebies as well.

If there are any Academy Sports stores out on the Left Coast stop by one and ask them to let you handle one. I swear it doesn't handle like a gun that light.
