In the rural south, every independent gas station and small grocery store used to have sitting out front a square metal tank with a hand pump for kerosene. I remember back in the 50s and 60s numerous house fires caused by kerosene wick heaters during cold weather and the fire chief's public service announcements about the dangers of kerosene wick heaters. The last time I saw an old dedicated kerosene tank was between Boston, Ga, and Monticello, FL. It was sitting in front of an old one pump gas station; the type of gas station that now exists only in the corners of an old fart's mind.
