Go to your local General Aviation airport and buy a gallon of Jet-A jet fuel which is highly refined kerosene with additives....cheap...(local airport Fixed Base Operator where a/c fuel is sold) .....

OR:

When the Fixed Base Operator drains the Jet Fuel Truck sump each morning they will usually "give" you a small amount at "no charge" if you ask politely ......

Smokes like the dickens in any wick flame device......smokes really good in a Zippo lighter if you want maneuvering flexibility while doing stock work..........

I'm not sure how your smoke pot is set up, but I'd take a small container to the corner gas station and try a dollar worth of diesel.

Yikes!!

I've recently (getting senile so it might have been a a few years ago) bought kerosene from Ace in a gallon tin for what-I -don't-remember but it was no more expensive than paint thinner.

Local general store has it but prefers to sell it a few gallons at a time.

I think that you can burn political bumper stickers and most political adds to make smoke. There has to be some use for them. I approve of this message.

Just use some mineral spirits, or paint thinner, or waste some charcoal lighter fluid. It all burns sooty.

I agree with JDW, a candle is fine unless there is a gale blowing at the time, just run the flame over whatever part you want blackening. Afterwards it just wipes off, no trouble. Best of all at a few cents each a half a dozen should last a lifetime. It's also good for blackening rifle sights that have developed 'Shiny' parts
