I think laying the gun down on its side on a chart would give a general idea as to its dimensions, but considering the breech is wider than the muzzles & the stock is a different width still it would only be approximately correct. AmarilloMike's method would seem to me to be much more reliable. I have just always used the lay it on a table top method myself, though not always handy at a show.

Thanks again folks. As you'll note on my original post, such a chart does exist. I had seen it somewhere in the last year, but can't remember exactly where. Southern Side x Side possibly.
If anyone runs across it, I'd appreciate a heads up, as I expect others would as well. Again, thanks.
Meanwhile, I'm off to the Vintagers Shoot in the AM. Hope to see some of you there.

I have used Sergey for more basic projects like adjustable combs, which have been competently done. He is doing a lot of outside work for Kittery Trading Post. But I would not give him a restoration project for a valuable gun. Mark Cromwell at NECG is is a ACGG member and plays in a different league, so to speak.

Sorry, Amarillo Mike, I got my Mikes confused. I still like laying the rib on a level surface and measuring drop with a machinist's scale or steel tape. I don't measure when buying a gun, I put it to shoulder. We should only worry about exact drop when writing an ad to sell a gun.
