Dr. Drew: Thank you so much for the wonderful illustrations! I knew you'd have something useful to share on this subject. What vexes me from time-to-time is comparing 2-bar to 3-bar, and even what I'm guessing to be the occational 4-bar(?). I don't tend to see many of the Crolles (we mostly deal in better English guns). Any more insightful photography to share on that?

I think in 2003 the DGJ has a picture of the Pieper Damascus barrels with the name in the pattern. There is also a member here who found one last year. He bought an old Pieper hammer gun that had had the barrel blued. When he got it home and started to look more closely during the process of cleaning it up, he discovered the pattern. It has since been properly re-browned and looks wonderful. Perhaps he'll see this thread and post a pic.
As PeteM would probably agree Pieper often gets lumped into the JABC pile. But they actually made pretty good guns. No Best guns but some nice ones. And today, good value for the money. Search the site for some pics.
The world cries out for such: he is needed & needed badly- the man who can carry a message to Garcia

I do agree.
I would appreciate a couple more pictures of the proof marks. I suspect it is midway, after Henri's death but before the later evolutions of the company.
Also, what is written on the top rib?
Pete
