kd - I think you have a reasonable expectation for your money. Allow maybe $2000 for some repairs of leverwork, springs, hooks, and bolts, and you should be on the right trail. Most of the OE finish (pristine, say 2/100) = $40,000, much OE finish (slightly used, say 93-98 of 100) = $28,000, and some OE finish (significently used, say 84-92 of 100) = $21,000. Your price should get you somewhere around 60th percentile of current condition.

Please, let us know what you find. AG commands a great deal of respect, so we want to know what he says.

Kdross,
My advice, forget the Purdey and buy the Woodward that Champlin Arms has for sale.

It'll save you about 5K and you'll have the "Best" grade shooter you wanted all along!

Small bore, guns and money have minds of their own.

I have returned from personally examining the gun with Alfred. First, I would like to thank Alfred for letting me inspect the gun with him. He is very knowledgable and is an expert in his field.

As to the gun, it was a total piece of crap. It had at least a dozen botched repairs, the barrels are not original to the gun, the chambers are out of proof, the head is cracked and it only gets worse. The gun was greatly misrepresented and I am annoyed that both my time and money were wasted. The gun is being sent back asap.

On a bright note, I have raised my budget to $20K plus. This should enable me to locate a nice gun. If anyone knows of a nice Purdey or H&H please drop me a line at kdross@msn.com

Thanks.

OK, now I understand. This gun sounds so badly misrepresented that I'd demand shipping money back. Sorry for the strike out. Keep looking, they are out there for your budget.

I think Bob Blair is selling his Purdey - I'd trust anything of his.

Wow there is another big time dealer to add to the "do not call" list! Between the one last week that doesn't bother to mention cut barrels and now this company gun room happily send off a gun to you for inspection with no mention of botched repairs or different barrel.
Any bets on how quick it goes back on the rack awaiting the next perhaps less savey buyer?
Sorry to hear of the waste of time and money Ken.I like some others here I suspect are really hoping you can pull this off. With a little safe cleaning and a bit of $$ from the sock draw maybe some day I can own one !
Hang in there Ken it will be worth it when you finally find it.
Best,
Dave
