With a fine gun on his arm, a man becomes a sporting gentleman, both on the field and off.

I'd thot it about that time of year, Dave. Started to ask the other day, but didn't wish to be a jinx. Good looking healthy buck for the larder! Also looks that the year has been kind to you. Do you use a harness to drag those guys out or?
Oh, great picture quality as well. Thanks for sharing!

Hi TW!
Wife reluctantly took the pictures. She hates being cold or even outside between October and March.
For a frame of reference...Her idea of camping is a Marriott Courtyard as opposed to a full service Marriott...;-)
I called her to drive my AWD car back to get closer to where I was so I didn't have to drag it another 500 yards to where I had the car parked. Fortunately; I was hunting my neighbors 60 acre horse farm and the logistics allowed her to get reasonably close to me pretty quickly.
I wear a harness because I typically hunt alone and from a very portable tree stand with climbing sticks. I don't use it to drag with.
To drag I have an old school hemp rope attached to a shoulder loop of orange seat belt like webbing. I've had it for years and it's more of a traditional thing for me. Kind of like the Gerber knife my brother gave me decades ago or the hunters hoist retractable haul cord...I will snap a picture of my old school gear and post it on the morrow.
I have a systematic anti-heart attack drag process for large deer....Walk 25 paces ahead...deposit Bow (or gun), back pack and any extraneous gear. Walk back to deer...drag deer to gear wait 1 minute....Repeat till your out of the woods and add water as necessary. I will probably do this till I hit 60 then I'm going shopping for a nice 4-wheeler.

Congratulations Dave on the start of another successful year of deer hunting.
I'm about 30 miles north of you and yes, Saturday morning was cold, wet and very windy.
You definitely kept your cool waiting for your shot.

Nice to see your success. I highly recommend a deer cart for us aging hunters. I had more than a kilometre to go with my muzzle loading Whitetail on the third of October.

Re-thought my comment. Should have said that I recommend a deer cart for you young guys and us old hunters. Just turned 69. Still keen to hunt, just have to work smarter rather than harder.

I had a surprise shot with my 7 X 57 Brno on a Newfoundland moose running downhill in a foot of snow. It did a back-flip a metre in the air, came down stone-dead. Severed the spinal cord ahead of the shoulder. Dominion 139-grain SP at 2900fps. An 800-pound animal flying backwards, upside-down in the air! I just came back from my Maine moose hunt last week, my guide said that if all possible shoot him 10" below the apex of the hump, takes out the spine and they fall right there. My shot was at dusk and I had to go through the front shoulder to the lungs, only went 20 yds anyway....
