Raimey, I still do not see anything that gives any special meaning of the house mark being near the definitive nitro/normal proof mark, nor anything that requires them to be together. If it was required, wouldn't the house mark be next to the Bundes Adler N on the left barrel, as well as the right? My guess is the workman put it there as a matter of convenience. Mike

When you have a minute, flip to page 61 of Wirnsberger.

Guys thank you for the discussion on my gun. I am looking at restoring it while it is in Germany. Do you think the would detract from the value of the gun?
By restore I mean fresh blueing and a newer scope with proper claw mount rings. Not a brand new scope but maybe a 15-20 year old zeiss 2-10-52 or similar.

Raimey, there are not only Oaks in Germany - the Kiel proofstamp is a "Nessel Blatt" (Nettle leaf). Cheers, Wolfgang

All right Wolfgang, I'll bite on it. What does a >>Nessel Blatt<<(Nettle leaf) have to do w/ weapons in Kiel?

Raimey, sorry, haven't seen it right. Of course this is an Oak leaf! It was the Kiel proofstamp in the 1950ies..Later it became the Nessel Blatt.
Cheers, Wolfgang

243 Ackley, If your gun is properly polished by hand and slow rust blued, it will enhance rather than detract from the value. The 6 power scope you already have is great, I wouldn't replace it. The mounts are a little problematical, the bases seem to have been spaced for a 4 power scope, which was likely the original scope mounted. Your problem very well illustrates the problems inherent in mounting different scopes on existing bases. Will the scope tip off at all? If it will, or will almost( without the objective bell hitting), you might be able to get by milling or filing the front dovetail to an angle to clear. I couldn't tell how much room you have, because the photo is cut off. If that doesn't work, higher front and rear "feet" may do the trick. If not, a new barrel socket will need to be installed farther forward, and the gap in the rib filled in. Changing to a 2-10 x 52 won't help, it will make it worse. Also, it will make the gun heavier. If the optics of the 6x demands replacement, a straight 4x ( or maybe smaller variable) will work better. Raimey, Go ahead and show the page. I have seen it written that it is a nettle leaf instead of oak, I just kept calling it an oak leaf. I used to get into burning nettle ( in Germany) pretty often, and the stamp looks more like oak to me. Mike
