Once again Holts Auctions are coming up and I see many cool items. One interesting thing is that there are several cross over doubles including one Eightbore. That should be of interest to our own Eightbore. There is even a 20 bore which is the first one of those Ive seen. If I hit the lottery it looks like Id have to buy a dozen guns for certain. Since Im not going to hit I think Ill just try to win a couple and hope for the best.

You can only shoot one at a time. A couple sounds more utilitarian than a dozen.

I have my eye on one, just deciding how heavy to bid.

Please remind me. How much does it cost to import a pre 1898 shotgun from Holt's?

Talk to SKB. He did a excellent job for me. And I gladly pay others to deal with headaches. Time was I did it myself but its harder now and just as cheap and easy to let others do it. They have the advantage of volume. Doing it in batches does cut cost a bit.

300$ plus 1% of the purchase price and shipping/insurance from me to you for an antique. Guns requiring a form 6 are 550$ plus the above additional fees.

I will place a few bids in the sealed bid as well. Today I had my eye on a very well used bpe single shot rifle and I placed what I felt was a quite aggressive offer and promptly out bid by nearly 30% to a single floor bidder. I am not sure if that was just an anomaly or something else going on. A search of past history at Holt's showing similar rifles selling for well under my bid. Odd but auctions often are.

Three items stuck out of that lot- the Horsley hammer single, a Holland No 3 non ejector, and the Rosson sliding lever.

I looked over Holt's offerings in today's auction, but decided to keep my powder dry for Morphy's, who just released their upcoming catalog containing several nice British doubles on my "Wanted" list!

Has anyone on here bought ammunition and imported from the UK?
There is a lot of ammunition in the current auction that I am interested in, but I'd like to sort out the actual cost and hassle of buying before making a bid.

Woodreaux,
Holts will not ship live ammo. Look under the bidding tab:
For firearms export outside the UK please contact HGSS admin@HGSS-global.co.uk
Please be aware that we are unable to ship any live ammunition.
Sundry Lots that do not require a licence (i.e. not guns or ammunition) will be shipped by Holts upon shipping request at payment.

I think you can still get the ammo shipped but it must be picked up by an licensed agent there and imported to the US. Maybe SKB knows. Sometimes these type of auctions may be your only source for obsolete ammo. But shipping is going to make it expensive.

KY Jon is indeed correct. I can get ammo here but it would be VERY costly.

Did anybody win on the sealed bids auction today? I must have missed on all three items. Cant find out yet by how much. Two which needed to be sleeved, one of which also needed a new stock and a third which needed a stock but did not need to be sleeved. So everyone of those guns would have cost me thousands more after the auction. All of my bids were in the almost stupid range but it seems there are other more stupid people than myself. Do not know if I should be glad or sad. Im running out of time to start projects these days. Still Id love to have any one of the three I bid on.

Congratulations on your win. The realized prices are now up. I lost. Lost one by five pounds, one by ten pounds and the last by 300 pounds. The five pound loss hurts the most but it saves me $3500-4000 and about a years wait. But I wont have a gun which I cant find for less than $6-7000. Oh well, dogs chase cars not because they can drive them but because they like the chase.

I bid on the big bore powder measure but it went for nearly three times what I thought was a high bid.
