I have a Mauser model 66 -- Cased with three barrels -- The gun and two barrels are standard -- the third barrel is Engraved and chambered for 257 Roberts -- The only markings on the barrel is ser. # G16361 --- 257 Robt's -- and a small WW77 etched on the barre lug-
I would appreciate it if you could give me any info on this barrel . It looks out of place with the three barrel set -- Thank You -- Rick http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1309/13781133/24830286/414157027.jpg http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1309/13781133/24830286/414157028.jpg http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1309/13781133/24830286/414157029.jpg http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1309/13781133/24830286/414157030.jpg

FAB,
You didn't mention proof marks. If there are no proof marks and no importer marks, the barrel was possibly custom made, in the USA. If custom made, it would have been built to the owners wishes. The WW77 might be the gunsmith's initials and the date. At least after 68, a gunsmith was supposed to mark the caliber and identify the installer. I have no idea who WW would be, maybe someone else does.

Mike I found this info. on the net -
Germany revised its Proof Laws in 1968 and eliminated the need for state proofing any firearm exported to the United States. Mauser, however, participated in a voluntary proof firing program, marking exports with "FBM" (Freiwilliger Beschu Mauser) in a trademark oval

FAB,
I should have known that. I see mostly older guns now, but I left after then and a couple of my own guns that were
redone in a friends shop don't carry the marks that would have been otherwise required if I wasn't bringing them home. It seems that it should have the importers address though. Maybe it came in as "parts".
