I have a question to ask and would like the opinion of my friends here on the forum.
I plan on selling a vintage English Best small gauge later this spring that has three sets of barrels. Two are made by the Maker and one made by another Best Gun maker for this gun.
One is 29", another 28" and the other barrel is 25" by another London maker.
Here is my question.
Do people put a higher value on multi barrels sets versus a one barrel gun. Reason I ask is my friend here claims that people put no extra value on multi barrel sets as it is not a big selling point.
It has gotten me to thinking as well.
Your opinions please as I am confused as to what to think.

Phooey on your friend. They are more valuable, absolutely and especially if made by the gunmaker who made the gun.

multiple barrels in multiple lengths and chokes do add value to any gun...generally, an extra set of barrels adds 50% value...two extra sets of barrels could add 100% value...give us some names... who made the gun...who made the extra barrel sets...

The gun is a Purdey made in 1921 with 29” barrels choked IM and Full. The 28” barrels made by Purdey in 1927. The 25” barrels were made by Westly Richards sometime around the same time period. I have no information on the WR barrels except the engraving on rib mentions the King and not the Queen. Purdey is documented by letter from Maker which I paid for.

Oh it’s a 20 bore as well. It has a single trigger added in 1927 . It has side clips and third bite as well. Weight is 6lb, 2 oz.

Your friend might want to buy it. Sounds ‘sorta expensive, from what you have posted.

The gun was made between the reigns of Queen Victoria, who died in 1901, and Queen Elizabeth II, who became queen in 1952. King on barrel.

I am going to go out on a limb and say the extra barrels by Purdey add value, the single trigger might reduce value but just slightly and the Westley barrels don't add much. 50% is way too much for the extras imo. Maybe 20%

It would certainly add value to me, especially the different choke and lengths. I don't know about 100% more, but probably 50% readily.

I don't have definitive data (statistically reliable) as multi-barrel sets are pretty rare, statistically speaking. There seems to be a link in value to consistency with the gun's maker, OQ, and CC. The higher the BV-OQ-CC the higher a % extra barrels will add. The lower the BV-OQ-CC the lower the % extra barrels will add.

I'll opine that 20% is a good general number. It can go a little higher for a really spectacular specimen and down to near zero for a low value gun with extra barrels "by the trade" and not really adding utility, versatility or interest.

If I can get a better description or photo of the gun and barrels in question, I'll be happy to estimate a value. All understand, please, that value and price are two different things. My values should be well within the ballpark of price agreed to by a willing seller and a willing and able buyer.
