My oldest son,J.T. and I before we went to his first dove hunt (as a shooter). Alas, it rained us out before he could get his first dove! I got two before the rain. We will be out tomorrow before church to go at them again!

Looks like you have a good partner, there. I only got two doves, as well. Also got my truck stuck.

Mr. Vernon:
I believe I recognize the spot. Is it on the Southwest side on town, South of US 70S?
Kind Regards,

Actually north of town, off Doolittle. I hunted a litte Southwest though, near Readyville. The birds were flying well.

Took my 8 year old Grandson on his first dove hunt as a shooter. I let him use his Ithaca/SKB Model 100 20ga.,long stock and all(a gift from a good friend). He had never shot a shotgun until yesterday(3 shots at a 5 gal. bucket!) I told him about shooting in front of the doves. On his third shot, he killed a dove flying right to left at about 40 yards! He was beside himself with joy and so was I. A great day to remember for both of us.

Today was opening day of dove season Sept. 1 2007. We had a great day of hunting and fellowship. It started at 12pm with a BB-Q lunch and followed with everyone out in the field at 2:00. At 4:30PM everyone had a limit of doves and the field was closed. After the hunt everyone sat around and talked about the day and memories from the past. We enjoyed some cool beverages and grilled some fresh doves. The hunt was wonderfull and the fellowship with friends was splendid. Allowing the birds to come in and feed means we can do it all over again next Saturday. Monday we will hunt a different field and I'll be taking the camera. I had to hunt opening day as a tradition. The 410 SxS proved itself with a limit of doves in 22 shots.

I would replace word "hunting" with shooting, greeeeaaaat shooting at that! If that is a slice of rubber on your stock don't leave it on for long, or you will discover nice "blond" patch of finish under it.

I scouted 60 miles Friday and saw very few doves. Waited by my dam till sunset last night and saw only two doves. Have no idea of where they can be.

At one of the numerous Southeastern sunflower fields. Hint: "you reap what you sow", true words.

We had a great day over a well prepared sunflower field. My two sons and a great friend started at 3:00 pm. We did not limit, but got close. It was hot and dry. The highlight was after the shoot. Sandwiches, a really cold beer, and the usual array of excuses and laughter before we headed home. Today, sunburned and tired I am thinking about a morning shoot tomorrow.
Good luck to all and stay safe!
Jim
